Late 17th Century Italian Velvet Fragment

A late 17th-century Italian silk cut velvet panel, with a crimson voided-velvet pattern of large scrolling acanthus leaves, palmettes and stylized flowers on an ivory ground. The bold, symmetrical design is typical of Genoese and Venetian velvets of the Baroque period. Framed with an antique metallic-thread braid border. A rare collectible textile.
