A rare and finely woven Persian Tehran prayer rug, circa 1900. The ivory field holds a full Tree of Life, rising beneath a shaped mihrab arch set against deep indigo with peacocks in the spandrels. Every branch is alive with detail: birds, foxes, eagles, leopards and deer move among flowering vines, a vision of paradise woven in wool. The claret border continues the story with running gazelles, hares and birds among blossoms. Tehran workshops of this period were known for their refined drawing and soft, harmonious palette, and this piece is a beautiful example.
Condition: Very good condition. The ends are original. The sides have been professionally rewrapped.
