A fine Persian Bijar rug from Kurdistan, woven around 1900. The field carries the classic Herati (Mahi) design, and in each of the four corners dragons are flying, an ancient symbol of power and protection. Dragons in this composition are unusual and give the rug a rare character. The border colors are especially beautiful and frame the field with great harmony. Bijar rugs are known as the “iron rugs of Persia” for their dense, durable weave, and this piece is a beautiful example.
Condition: Full pile, perfect condition. Some minor restoration. The ends are original. The sides have been rewrapped.
