19th Century Caucasian Talish Rug, Azerbaijan, Red Field with Green Border

A 19th century Talish rug from the southeastern Caucasus, Azerbaijan, with an unusual design. Most Talish rugs have a blue field and an ivory border, but this one has a warm red field and a green main border. The open field holds two boxed medallions and a scattering of small stars and rosettes, framed by bands of colorful “dice” and rosette motifs. The colors are beautiful and full of life, a true collector’s piece.

Condition: Full pile. Old restoration at the ends and sides, and some good restoration in the field. A few small areas of low pile.
