Amir Textiles & Rugs is an antique rug and rare textile gallery at 103 Charles Street in Boston’s Beacon Hill. We offer museum-quality antique rugs from the Caucasus, Persia, Anatolia and Central Asia, together with expert advisory, appraisal, restoration and cleaning. Behind the gallery is a family tradition in rugs that began in 1960.
A family tradition that began in the Bazaar of Tabriz
Amir Oskouei grew up in his father’s antiques shop in the Bazaar of Tabriz, one of the great carpet centers of the world. He then apprenticed under the Tabriz rug merchant Hassan Ahani, opened his own shop selling and restoring antique rugs, and earned a degree in the fine art of rugs from the University of Islamic Art.
After coming to the United States, Amir spent several years with Landry & Arcari, one of New England’s long-established rug houses, before founding Amir Textiles & Rugs in Massachusetts. In November 2026 the business opened its gallery on Charles Street, so that collectors, designers and homeowners in Boston can see the collection in person.
“It’s not enough for me to sell the rug. I have to learn the inside of the rug — you need to know the soul of the rug.” — Amir Oskouei
What you will find in the gallery
Every piece in our collection is hand-selected for age, quality of wool and dyes, design and condition. The collection covers the great rug-weaving traditions of the East:
- Caucasian rugs — Kazak (including Fachralo, Borchalu and Lori-Pambak), Karabagh and Chelaberd, Genje, Shirvan, Akstafa, Kuba (Perepedil, Seychour, Konagkend), Baku and Khila, Daghestan, Derbend, Lesghi, Talish and Moghan weavings, known for their bold geometric designs and saturated colors
- Persian rugs and carpets — Heriz and Heriz Serapi, Tabriz, Bakhshayesh, Karaja, Mahal, Sarouk, Ferahan, Malayer, Hamadan, Bijar, Senneh, Kashan, Isfahan, Kerman, Khorasan and Mashhad, together with tribal and village weavings: Bakhtiari, Lori, Qashqai, Khamseh, Afshar, Kurdish, Shahsavan and Baluch. Room-size and palace-size carpets are part of the collection
- Anatolian rugs — village and workshop rugs from Bergama, Konya, Ladik, Kula, Gördes (Ghiordes), Milas, Mucur, Kırşehir, Uşak (Oushak) and Yahyalı, Yörük nomadic weavings, and fine silk rugs from Hereke
- Central Asian and Turkmen weavings — Tekke, Yomut, Salor, Saryk, Ersari, Chodor and Arabachi rugs and tent bags, along with Beshir and Amu Darya weavings
- Rare textiles — embroideries, suzanis, ikats, velvets, flatweaves (kilim, sumak and verneh) and tribal bags such as khorjin saddlebags, chosen for collectors
Each rug carries an inventory number, so you can search the online collection and ask about a specific piece. Prices are given on request.
